Tiger Woo’s World Class Taekwondo 7th Annual Family Championships

Introduction

The Tiger Woo’s Family Championship is our annual tournament that is open to all our students! Three-year-old Little Tigers to our most experienced Black Belts are able to compete in one of our largest events!

We’re very excited to have our members learn valuable lessons about perseverance and hard work through competition. The Family Championship is only once a year! We would love to see your training photos and videos. Post them on your favorite social media platform and use #TigerWoosChampionship

The Family Championship will be held at the Lewis Center location (8645 Columbus Pike, Lewis Center OH, 43035). Information regarding registration, competition rules and format, competition call-times, and spectator information can be found in this packet. Each event is $40 to enter. Registration ends Tuesday, May 17th.

  • Please note: Child Small typically fits children 3-5 years old, Child Medium typically fits children 6-8 years old, and Child Large typically fits children 9-11 years old). T-shirt orders need to be submitted by May 11th in order to receive it by the Championships

Competition Events and Rules
Spirit Competition Little Tigers and White belts can participate in this event. Students will be award with one 1st place, one 2nd place, and one 3rd place trophy.

Students will demonstrate their understanding of single, double, and triple punches along with front kick with their right and left legs.  Students will also demonstrate their 3 focuses, confidence via yelling, and showing good manners to others.

Forms Forms is for students Yellow Belt and higher. All the colored belts will need to have at least one blue tip. Students will be award with one 1st place, one 2nd place, and one 3rd place tophy.

Judges will score based on: executing powerful motions, overall presentation, balance, focused eye motions, having good pace and rhythm of motions, having accurate targets and proper breathing & yelling. Students will be asked to demonstrate the 1st  half of their form

Green Stripe-Taeguek Il-jang
Orange- Taeguek Ee-jang
Green- Taeguek sam-jang
Blue Stripe- Taeguek sah-jang
Purple- Taeguek sam-jang or sah-jang
Blue- Taeguek oh-jang
Red Stripe- Taeguek yuk-jang
Brown- Taeguek oh-jang or yuk-jang
Red- Taeguek chil-jang
Black Stripe- Taeguek pal-jang
All Poom- Taeguek chil-jang or pal-jang
1st Dan- Koryo
2nd Dan- Kumgang
3rd Dan- Taebaek

Speed Kicking Speed kicking is open to all belt levels. Students will be award with one 1st  place, one 2nd place, and one 3rd place trophy.

Competitors will be judge on how many front kicks they can perform in 30 seconds. It is recommended to kick using the top of the foot to perform a proper front kick. For the kick to count towards the total, participants must use the top of their foot and touch the ground after each kick using alternating feet. The target will be held at their waste height. The final score will be determined by successful kicks minus any infraction (missed kicks)

Sword This is open to all 2nd Dan and up. Students will be award with one 1st place, one 2nd place, and one 3rd place trophy.

Competitors will have 10 tries to blow out a lit candle without striking it. The competitor who blows out the candle with the least number of tries will have the highest score.

Family Form This event is open to students yellow belt and higher with one or more family members that are currently training. Teams must have two or more members. Top 5 teams will be awarded a 1st -5th place trophy. Other competitors will earn a medal.

Judges will score based on teamwork, executing powerful motions, overall presentation, balance, focused eye motions, having good pace and rhythm of motions, having accurate targets and proper breathing & yelling. Competitors will demonstration the entire form of their choosing.

Board Breaking Board Breaking is open to all belt levels. Students will be award with one 1st place, one 2nd place, and one 3rd place trophy.

Judges will score based on performance (yelling, kicking stance, bow) and execution of their board breaking skill.

Little Tigers & White Belt- Hammer Fist
Yellow-Orange Belt- Axe Kick
Green-Purple Belt- Side Kick
Blue-Brown Belt- Back Kick
Red-Poom Belt- Spinning Kick
Black Belt- Their choice of 1 kicking skill

Sparring Sparring is open to all students Green Stripe and Higher. Students will be awarded with one 1st place, one 2nd place, and one 3rd place trophy.

Judges will scored based on the execution of punched or kicks made to the opponent chest guard and how many they can land in 2 rounds for 40 seconds each. There will be a 20 second break in between rounds.

Punch to the body= 1 point
Round Kick or Skipping Kick to the body= 2 points
Back Kick or Tornado Kick to the body= 4 points

Students will need to provide their own sparring gear equipment to participate.

Competition Format
Awards Trophies will be awarded to all competitors. One 1st place, one 2nd place, and one 3rd place can be earned. All students will earn a trophy for each division. If students earn three 1st  Place Trophy, they will win a Grand Slam trophy.
Uniforms All competitors need to wear their full uniform and belt. Competitors who participate in sparring will need to bring their full sparring gear.
Spectator Info Family and friends are welcome to come inside to watch the Taekwondo Championships. Spectators need to follow the school safety procedures to come into the school.
